Buxlow is a school of musical excellence. We boast five choirs, a school orchestra, string groups and recorder ensembles to name but a few. Above all, our aim at Buxlow is to work together to create and enjoy music. This is clearly evident to any observer at our musical events.
Each year Buxlow stages a full scale production from a wide range of musicals . The script is written, the dances arranged and the music set especially for our performances . All children from Reception to Year 6 play an active and full role and all children wear costumes .provided either by the parents or a local theatre company. Sound effects are provided by an ex parent and props are made by children and staff. So our annual musical brings together many members of our community!
Children have the opportunity to learn the following instruments; Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Voice, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Recorder and Trumpet. We have also recently introduced a dance club to offer an understanding of different dance styles.
As well as committing to solo and ensemble work, children are carefully prepared for ABRSM exams. An examiner visits the school once a year to assess children. From year to year we enjoy a 100% pass rate with many children gaining merits and distinctions .
Children are regularly auditioned during class music lessons and once they have reached the required standard are able to enrol in one or more of the school choirs. The choirs perform a variety of works of varying standards and the more senior choirs have performed successfully at local festivals . Once children have reached the top choir they are then given the opportunity to audition for national choirs . Recently our children have gained places in the following choirs;
Chapel Royal Choir:
A select group of choristers at St James Palace singing for the Queen
NYCGB: National Youth Choirs of Great Britain
A family of choirs for outstanding singers with outstanding potential, in the United Kingdom
NCC: National Children's Choir
A choir for outstanding young singers from throughout the United Kingdom
