Buxlow School offers a broad range of sports and activities as part of our Physical Education curriculum. We provide children with quality teaching in a variety of sports. Ultimately we are aiming to instil in the children, a positive attitude towards sport and health related fitness. The foundation we provide encourages them to engage enthusiastically in physical activities throughout the remainder of their education and indeed, the rest of their lives.
The aims and objectives of the curriculum are based on the guidelines set out by the National Curriculum. We use off site facilities for our sports and swimming lessons which are taught largely on a co-educational basis. Games lessons are also co-educational. We also strive to ensure that all of our pupils have positive sporting experiences to take with them to secondary school and beyond.
The variety of sports taught includes athletics, cricket, cross country, football, gymnastics, netball, orienteering, rounders, tag rugby, tennis, and hockey. Qualified swimming instructors take the children from Year 1 for a Term of weekly lessons at the local swimming centre. When they are older, children may take part in an annual ISA inter-school swimming gala.
Every child enjoys timetabled PE lessons. We encourage each child to understand the important role that physical exercise has on a fit and healthy lifestyle, in a fun, positive and stimulating environment. This also encourages each child to extend their physical skills and work towards achieving their potential.
Every child participates in our annual Sports Day held in July at the games field.
